  1. BrightWorks V 1.2 
  2. A Quick Installation Guide
  3.  
  4. The following file versions are recommended for BrightWorks 
  5. installation and use :
  6.  
  7.     IPX version 3.10
  8.     NETX version 3.26 or greater
  9.     VIPX version 1.13
  10.     NETWARE.DRV version 2.02
  11.     VNETWARE.386 version 1.06
  12.  
  13. If you are using ODI Drivers instead of IPX, you must have :
  14.  
  15.     LSL version 1.2 (2.01) is recommended
  16.     IPXODI.COM version 1.2 (2.01) is recommended.
  17.     
  18. NLM requirements :
  19.  
  20.     Netware 3.11 and 3.12 File Servers :
  21.     The new SMRPROXY.NLM which ships with BrightWorks v. 1.2 is LSL 
  22.     based. This means that in order to successfully run the SMRPROXY.NLM,
  23.     the LSLENH.NLM MUST be loaded, before the lan drivers, on the 
  24.     fileserver.
  25.  
  26.     BTRIEVE.NLM version 6.10 or later 
  27.     CLIB.NLM version  3.12f or later
  28.     LSLSENH.NLM version 1.01
  29.     MSM.NLM version 2.2
  30.     PATCHMAN.NLM version 2.3
  31.     ETHERTSM.NLM or TOKENTSM.NLM or RXNETTSM.NLM 
  32.     All LAN Drivers need to be updated (i.e NE2000.LAN)
  33.     
  34.     Netware 4.x File Servers :
  35.     The requirements for Netware v. 4.x is that you must be running 
  36.     Netware v4.01, 250 user version or lower, with bindery emulation.
  37.  
  38. To install BrightWorks, you must also:
  39.     
  40. 1.      Be logged in as a SUPERVISOR or equivalent
  41. 2.      Run Windows 3.1 in enhanced mode or Windows for Workgroups 3.11.
  42. 3.      Have the following line in the [386enh] section of your 
  43.     SYSTEM.INI file :
  44.            network=*vnetbios, vnetware.386, vipx.386
  45. 4.      Have a drive mapped to your system volume.
  46. 5.      Have a minimum of 14379K of free disk space; recommended is 24414K.
  47.  
  48. INSTALLING BRIGHTWORKS :
  49.  
  50. 1.      Verify that you have a drive letter mapped to to SYS volume for
  51.     the file server on which you are installing BrightWorks.
  52.  
  53. 2.      Start Windows in enhanced mode.
  54.  
  55. 3.      Choose RUN from the Program Manager FILE menu. Click on Browse and                      
  56.     select SETUP.EXE from the drive letter corresponding to your CD-ROM 
  57.     and select OK. 
  58.  
  59. 4.      From the CHOOSE SERVER dialog box, select the server on which
  60.     you want to install BrightWorks, and click on the OK button. 
  61.     BrightWorks will verify at this point, that you have supervisory 
  62.     rights on the selected server.
  63.  
  64. 5.      Select one of the following install options :
  65.     BASIC INSTALL - installs with minimal user input. This will create
  66.             the McAfee  program group containing the BrightWorks 
  67.             and Crystal Reports program and Readme file icons.
  68.     UPGRADE - allows you to automatically upgrade from
  69.           previous versions of McAfee metering or LAN Inventory
  70.           software to BrightWorks with minimal user input.
  71.  
  72.     N.B.    The installation procedure allows you to specify a drive 
  73.         letter that is mapped to a different server than the one 
  74.         you originally chose.
  75.         DO NOT install BrightWorks in the same directory as SiteMeter 
  76.         or LAN Inventory. 
  77.             
  78.     BASIC Installation
  79.  
  80. 6a.     Enter the full path name to where BrightWorks should be installed
  81.     and choose the OK button. N.B. The drive letter and full directory 
  82.     must coincide with the file sever you selected earlier. BrightWorks 
  83.     will create the directory if it does not exist. The default drive 
  84.     letter is the first one found on the server you specified and BWORKS 
  85.     is the default directory.
  86.  
  87.     From this point on you will be prompted to insert the remaining disks 
  88.     to complete the installation.
  89.  
  90. 7a.     Enter your company name, and choose the OK button. 
  91.     The company name must be between 1 and 20 characters in length.
  92.  
  93. 8a.     Choose the OK button in the information box indicating the successful
  94.     installation of  BrightWorks. View the Readme file for any updated 
  95.     product information. 
  96.  
  97. 9a.     A dialog box displays asking you if you want to restart Windows at
  98.     this  point. You must restart Windows to enable the changes that
  99.     BrightWorks made. Choose the YES button to restart Windows.
  100.  
  101. UPGRADE
  102.  
  103.     The Upgrade Install offers you several options. You can either  
  104.     install BrightWorks and copy the information contained in your 
  105.     current version of  this product or just copy the information 
  106.     from existing software into the new BWORKS directory. Your 
  107.     existing information database is retained while your BrightWorks 
  108.     system is upgraded.
  109.  
  110. 6b.     Select an option from the Install Options dialog box
  111.  
  112. 7b.     Enter the full path name to where BrightWorks should be installed, 
  113.     and choose the OK button. N.B. The drive letter and full directory 
  114.     must coincide with the file sever you selected earlier. BrightWorks 
  115.     will create the directory if it does not exist. The default  drive 
  116.     letter is the first one found on the server you specified and BWORKS 
  117.     is the default directory.
  118.  
  119.     If BrightWorks already exists in the specified directory, an option 
  120.     box asks you whether or not you wish to overwrite this copy of 
  121.     BrightWorks. If you are installing over a Fusion 1.0 or greater 
  122.     or LAN Automatic inventory 3.1 or greater, you will be prompted 
  123.     "Do you wish to overwrite your existing Inventory data files?" 
  124.     If you answer YES, you will need to collect the data again. 
  125.     Answering NO preserves your data. If LAN Inventory files are 
  126.     detected in the specified directory, you are prompted to choose 
  127.     whether or not you want to you the new BrightWorks software list. 
  128.     Either choose YES to use the new software list or NO to convert 
  129.     your existing software list. (Conversion of your existing list 
  130.     may result in duplicate software entries)
  131.  
  132. 8b.     Enter your company name, and choose the OK button. 
  133.     The company name must be between 1 and 20 characters in length.
  134.  
  135. 9b.     At the prompt, (if upgrading from an earlier version of LAN 
  136.     inventory) then enter the path name for the existing copy of 
  137.     LAN Inventory and choose OK. BrightWorks verifies that you have 
  138.     a previous version of  LAN Inventory, makes a duplicate copy of 
  139.     the files and then converts them to the BrightWorks  software.
  140.  
  141. 10b.    At the prompt, (if upgrading from an earlier version of FUSION or
  142.     BrightWorks) then  enter the path name for the existing copy of 
  143.     LAN Inventory and  choose  OK. BrightWorks verifies that you have 
  144.     a previous version of McAfee metering  software, makes a duplicate 
  145.     copy of the files and then converts them to the  BrightWorks software.
  146.     
  147. 11b.    Choose the OK button in the information box indicating the successful
  148.     installation of  BrightWorks. View the Readme file for any updated
  149.     product information. 
  150.  
  151. 12b.    A dialog box displays asking you if you want to restart Windows at
  152.     this point. You must restart Windows to enable the changes that 
  153.     BrightWorks made. Choose  the YES button to restart Windows.
  154.  
  155.  
  156. INSTALLING  NLM'S (SiteMeter specific)
  157.  
  158. At the file server console, type 
  159.  
  160.     LOAD BSETUP :-  to configure the Btrieve NLM
  161.  
  162.     Choose Set Btrieve Configuration and set the following minimum values:
  163.     
  164.         Number of Open files :=22;     Number of Transactions:=1
  165.         Largest Record Size:=17000;   Largest Page Size:=4096
  166.         Specify that BROUTER be automatically loaded.
  167.  
  168.     Save the configuration and exit BSETUP.
  169.  
  170.     N.B        If BTRIEVE.NLM is already active, then type BSTOP
  171.  
  172.     BSTART :- This loads both the BTRIEVE.NLM and BPSXCOM.NLM 
  173.           on the file server. BTRIEVE.NLM v. 6.10 or later is 
  174.           recommended
  175.     LOAD SMRPROXY.NLM :- This loads SMRPROXY.NLM and also 
  176.            autoloads  SITEMETER.NLM on the file server
  177.  
  178.
